Remaking SG at Marina Bay

Description of Programme

The NExtgen Immersive Experience is designed to impart and inspire the National Education (NE) messages to the next generation of participants in Singapore through location-based mobile technology.

In the Remaking SG at Marina Bay, participants will be able to explore the various locations around Marina Bay, learn interesting facts about them while engaging with fun and meaningful activities including games, the collection of AR collectibles and more through LDR's award winning ‘Locomole’ mobile application.

Learning Objective / Total Defence Pillars

Singapore has continually renewed itself by transforming old structures into World Class infrastructures. The old Singapore Harbour that used to receive traders from round the world has now been transformed into a City Reservoir boasting a new financial district, classy hotels and restaurants, and hosting the visitors from around the world. Participants are seated on reclaimed land that was during the 1800s, still a part of a large and famous water-body called the Singapore Harbour, where ships from all over the world would anchor and send their goods in-land along the Singapore River for further trading activities to take place.

The trail also allows the participants to explore the changing economic, social, historical, geographical, and cultural landscapes of the Singapore River and the British’s open reliance on a strong military force at the river to protect its commercial interests right from the onset.

Singapore's Reclaimed Land
Participants are seated on reclaimed land that was during the 1800s, still a part of a large and famous water body called the Singapore Harbor, where ships from all over the world would anchor and send their goods in-land along the Singapore River for further trading activities to take place.

Guardians of the River
Guarding the entrance of the River then were two imposing Colonial Buildings, one called Emplace Place (now Asian Civilisation Museum) that housed the entire British Bureaucracy; and the other Fort Fullerton (now Fullerton Hotel) to assure all traders that it was safe to trade in Singapore, and that the British naval guns would not hesitate to open fire on any force that would dare threaten its port.
