Remaking SG at Gardens By The Bay

Description of Programme

The NExtgen Immersive Experience is designed to impart and inspire the National Education (NE) messages to the next generation of participants in Singapore through location-based mobile technology.

In the Remaking SG at Gardens By the Bay, participants will be able to explore the various locations around Gardens by the Bay, learn interesting facts about them while engaging with fun and meaningful activities including games, the collection of AR collectibles and more through LDR's award winning ‘Locomole’ mobile application.

Learning Objective / Total Defence Pillars

Gardens by the Bay is a good example of how Singapore does not rest on its past laurels, but even receiving the acclaimed reputation of “Garden City”, it continued to evolve itself and strive for higher excellence. This desire to better itself birthed the vision of “City in a Garden”, an even more ambitious plan for Singapore to reinvent itself.

Gardens by the Bay is also an example of how Singapore had placed emphasis on innovation to improve its urban spaces and quality of living for Singaporeans – its development as a clean and green city is the result of decades of deliberate planning and efforts since independence in 1965, before climate change became a global concern. Gardens by the Bay has become more than just another mega-development, but has become an iconic place of interest in Singapore. Participants will be encouraged to take moments to reflect what difference Gardens by the Bay had made for them on an individual level, and on both the community and national level.

Singapore's Transformation
Participants will explore the many gardens to find evidence of Singapore’s transformation and strive for excellence on the ground. They will be encouraged to read the stories to understand why the Gardens were built, and how the Gardens served various aspects of Total Defence.

Gardens by the Bay Vision
Participants will learn about the vision behind Gardens by the Bay and also discover questions such as why it was built and how it has become an icon and a symbol of innovation. They will also learn about how Gardens by the Bay has embraced eco-tourism, bio-diversity, and what this means for Singapore pragmatically in terms of economic and social defence. They will also discover that the “City in a Garden” vision was born out of a desire to defend Singapore’s economic and global standing, and to continually re-invent itself.
