Fort Canning, previously known as Bukit Larangan or Forbidden Hill, has a special place in the history of Singapore. During the 14th Century, the area was home to Malay Kings. Fort Canning also served as the headquarters of the Far East Command Centre and British Army Barracks, during the Colonial Era.

Fort Canning is rich in history and culture, leading participants who embark on this journey on a blast to the past participants embarking on the trails will see Fort Canning as a site that is important to Singapore’s pre-colonial past, and colonial days, where it was used by the British to showcase their influence and control over Singapore.

Multicultural Richness & History
Fort Canning is known for its colonial richness - Raffles once resided and governed over Singapore. Here, he started his own Botanical Garden. Today, it is still home to a spice garden and many heritage trees. Evident by the rich history of Fort Canning, despite Singapore’s young age as a nation, it has a rich multicultural history that spanned much longer.

Key Military Role
Fort Canning has also played a key military role throughout Singapore's history. Throughout the visit, participants will see many historical military artefacts from the colonial era. This is also where the British decided to surrender to the invading Japanese during the Second World War.

Early Trade & Commerce
As one visits the microsites on Fort Canning, they should look out for pieces of evidence of trades and commerce that had already taken place in Singapore way back in the 15th to 17th century.
